ROMAN CASTLES THROUGH THE GAZE OF THE OTHER: A JOURNEY THROUGH ART, NATURE AND TRADITIONS
Edited by Samuela Di Schiavi
The itinerary proposes a walk through the splendid Villa Cavalletti to discover the other’s gaze on the Castelli Romani, described in the works of foreign or foreign-born writers who, from the Grand Tour to the present day, have visited and savored the scenic, artistic and enogastronomic beauty offered by the area. The journey will begin with descriptions of the majestic gardens of the Tuscolan Villas by foreign travelers and will continue with the discovery of several towns: Grottaferrata and the historic Abbey of San Nilo; Marino, the Fountain of the Moors and the celebrations of the Sagra dell’Uva (Grape Festival); Genzano and the centuries-old tradition of the Infiorata; and finally Frascati. The itinerary will also allow participants to discover the nature of the Castelli Romani described by various foreign or foreign-born authors, dwelling mainly on Lake Albano and Tusculum.
Project combining scientific research, territory and sustainability, born from the collaboration between Villa Cavalletti and CLICI – Center for Italian Language and Culture of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, under the guidance of Prof. Florinda Nardi. Two PON/Green PhD students designed sustainable itineraries in the Castelli Romani, between history and literature. After the success of Summer School 2024, new experiences between culture, taste and Oil Museum, to enhance and regenerate the territory.
