OIL MUSEUM

THE OIL MILL AT THE RED COTTAGE

THE OIL MUSEUM

The Villa Cavalletti Oil Mill at Villino Rosso is the Oil Museum, a space dedicated to the dissemination and research of the olive culture of the Castelli Romani. A place to recognize the traditions and quality of an ancient land. The original 20th-century oil mill, installed by the Jesuit fathers inside a building dating back to the 17th century, is the key exhibit of the immersive exhibition.

At the Oil Museum, visitors can take a journey through the agricultural and industrial archeology of the area, from the fruits of the earth to the finished product. Rounding out the experience: the Olfactory Laboratory for sensory analysis and tastings, the Villa Cavalletti Product Shop and the Convivio Table for outdoor activities.

THE RED COTTAGE

Originally this building was the farmer’s house, dating back to the 17th century. Inside it the Jesuits in the mid-20th century installed a traditional oil mill. The building has been the subject of a three-pronged project, one of conservative restoration of the old, another of enhancement of the modern, and a final one of museum display.

THE PROJECT
The project, curated by Dario Biello for Expositore Architettura, is developed along three intersecting cross-media lines of action. The first line relates to conservative restoration, in the logic of returning the asset as it was, where it was. The second line, on the other hand, was devoted to the enhancement of the modern, with the musealization of the twentieth-century oil mill at its center. The last line, on the other hand, was dedicated to the setting up of the contemporary, is the scenotechnical route accompanied by the production of the popularized content.
