THE COMPLEX
THE THOUSAND SHADES OF THE CASTELLI ROMANI
Villa Cavalletti stands within the protected area of the Castelli Romani Park, on an area of 27 hectares overlooking Rome. The entire complex is protected as an asset of outstanding historical and artistic interest by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. A favorite destination of the Grand Tour, its origins date back to before the 16th century, configuring itself as an example of a Villa Tuscolana with a clear vocation aimed at agricultural production.
Originally the property passed from Cardinal Bartolomeo Cesi to Marquis Ermete Cavalletti, coming after World War II to accommodate the Jesuits, who refine the processing of the collections of the historic vineyard, the monumental olive grove and the field of ancient grains here.
Two popes, Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI, have been hosted here.
Today Villa Cavalletti is home to the Tierre Organic Farm, which is leading a process of sustainable regeneration and enhancement of the entire complex and its important agricultural tradition here.
In addition to the Historic Villa and the Academy building, here we find the Organic Agricultural Estate with the historic vineyard, the monumental olive grove and the ancient grain field, the Monumental Park, the hillock of infinity, as well as various buildings, including the Borghetto, the Cedar Farmhouse, the Farmhouse in the Vineyard, the Marquis’s Farmhouse, and the Villino Rosso, home of the Oil Museum dedicated to the agricultural culture of the Castelli Romani.
THE HISTORIC VILLA
The Historic Villa is an example of a Tuscolo Villa, a typical typology in the Castelli Romani area, its origins date back to the 16th century and over the years it has gone through several construction phases, maintaining its agricultural vocation until today becoming a sustainable ecosystem.
SUSTAINABILITY.
Villa Cavalletti promotes slow and sustainable tourism. We have chosen to invest in renewable energy and in green building restoration and regeneration. We support a circularity model by privileging the use of recyclable, salvaged and km0 products.
