Between 2021 and 2022, Villa Cavalletti participated in the European Researchers’ Night, coordinated by Frascati Scienza, hosting events and workshops focused on young people, climate change, energy, and sustainable mobility.
The 2021 LEAF program kicked off with the seminar “Climate Change: A Youth Roadmap,” a preparatory event for the United Nations COP26 on climate change.
Thirty high school and college students met with researchers, experts, and science communicators to discuss climate mitigation and adaptation, the circular economy, renewable energy, and biodiversity conservation. Divided into working groups, they envisioned possible scenarios for 2030 and helped define a shared roadmap.
The program continued with a guided tasting of organic extra virgin olive oil, designed to provide an in-depth look at production methods that respect natural cycles and the environment.
On the same day, the Future Trailer was unveiled—an Italian street food trailer equipped with an induction cooktop powered by solar panels. The students observed how it works during a cooking demonstration featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Villa Cavalletti also served as the starting point for free e-bike tours exploring the Castelli Romani, promoting a form of transportation that is slow and respectful of the local environment.
In 2022, the LEAF project —an acronym for “heaL thE plAnet’s Future” —addressed the major climate, food, energy, and health crises through a program implemented in numerous Italian cities.
On September 29, Villa Cavalletti hosted an experiential workshop dedicated to the Ospitalità Castelli Romani Energy Community. In the historic park, children and teenagers observed the ecosystem of the centuries-old trees and learned more about how an energy community works.
Through the eV-Now! Future Trailer, the students learned how solar energy can be converted into electricity and stored to power electric bicycles and a fully equipped kitchen. The day concluded with a guided tasting of the freshly pressed extra virgin olive oil from the 2022–2023 olive harvest.
Through the 2021 and 2022 LEAF programs, Villa Cavalletti has brought together research, education, and the local community, empowering students and citizens to take the lead in experiences dedicated to building a sustainable future.
